A client asked about the best way to find email lurking somewhere in her folders. She used named folders, but every now and then something would get away, and ridiculous amounts of time would elapse whilst she scrolled through folders, Inbox, Sent, and even Deleted (if she hadn’t emptied her Trash Can for a while). As she described her dilemma, I realised that every now and then I did the same, even though I’m pretty organised! (Memory is great, but even the best one fails at times, and occasionally that swift ‘click and drag’ drops the bundle into the wrong box. Happened to me the day I wrote this tip!) I didn’t know the answer, which took me on a journey – it’s so easy I’m embarrassed to admit I used email for about three years before I found this great tool.
At least in Outlook Express and Outlook, and I imagine it’s the same in most other mail programmes, look along your Tool Bar, and you’ll find a ‘Find’ (or ’Search’) button. Outlook Express immediately gives you detailed options; in Outlook choose the Advanced button to make it easier.
Microsoft Outlook offers a ‘Search’ function in each folder. It also allows you to set a more specific search criteria to more precisely pin point elusive email! If you need more help, use your ‘Help’ button for more detailed instructions.
