One of Life’s Tough Lessons

I recently had a fascinating discussion with my project manager, Sanchia. She came to me from the diplomatic corp. where the requirements of work and raising her young family were so all-encompassing that she ended up becoming unwell while on an overseas posting. Her whole perspective on life has changed after she had to take a year off work to recuperate. But her story reminded me of a quote by John Wanamaker:
People who cannot find time for recreation are obliged sooner or later to find time for illness.
It is so easy to get sucked into working harder and longer, but it seems to me that when our work starts to overshadow our lives, the ultimate loser becomes ourselves. The weekend is approaching – I love taking time out to rebalance the “life” component of my own work/life equation.

good! I agree with that.
