Ok, using the word ‘redundant’ during tough economic times may cause some people to pull their knees up to their chests and rock gently backwards and forwards… but don’t let that be you! Because the kind of ‘redundant’ I am talking about can only be a good thing!
This series of blogs is all about getting a grip on the concept of delegation. We all understand that delegation skills are a great thing to have, but do we understand what we should be delegating? I know myself how easy it is to fall into the trap of delegating out all of the boring and repetitive work without thinking of the broader opportunities that exist. I am going to give you a tip right now that will help you maximise the benefits of good delegation…
Try considering how you can increase your staff’s knowledge and skill base. If your staff are at least as good as you at a task, you’re freed up to move to new opportunities. Withholding information is not in your own, or the company’s best interest. It can cause discontentment with other staff or lead to them not extending themselves while they let you burn out.
A good manager makes sure that everyone is sharing learning opportunities with their fellow workers. A well-oiled machine has more than one person who can step in and do a job! And as soon as you have made yourself redundant enough that other people can take over some of your tasks, you can move onto new and exciting opportunities yourself!
The Art of Delegation is such a great topic, and there is so much to learn. Luckily, I have a tried and tested approach that makes delegation easy and practical for anyone.
I will be making an announcement this weekend that will give those of you in New Zealand the chance to make the most of my approach. If you are not lucky enough to live right here in Godzone I am going to announce a special opportunity just for you too!
Stay tuned!

Great advice Robyn! I agree about the ‘well-oiled machine’, it’s important to have others to step in and take over..
Well-written entry!
